Masterclass 3D Printing / Additive Manufacturing
Given by Daniƫl Hoogstraate from Materialise
Limited options for participation, participation will be confirmed after registration.

According to average media report, 3D printing will replace any and all production techniques in the foreseeable future and it will pose a danger to, among other things, employment in logistics and the manufacturing industry. Houses, watches, bridges, pizzas, et cetera; we are overwhelmed with the most daring products showing the possibilities of 3D-printing. The result is that many organizations no longer see the forest through the trees and a blurred image arises of what 3D printing can really mean for the manufacturing industry.

However, we cannot ignore the disruptive character of this technique and ultimately one wants an answer to the ultimate question; 'What's in it for me?'
Thus the challenge lies in finding the right applications where 3D printing can provide maximum added value. We therefore have to put the economic feasibility next to the technical feasibility on the balance sheet and to determine whether there is a business case for 3D printing.

One should also keep in mind that other production techniques also continue to evolve and will never be replaced by 3D printing. Ultimately, it is the purpose to determine when 3D printing can be complementary to 'conventional' production techniques.
The meaning of this masterclass is to answer these questions so one gets a better picture of which place 3D printing can take next to other production techniques.

You will not be overwhelmed with all possible techniques or materials, but a connection will be made with what ultimately drives companies from a business perspective. Through a realistic vision and practical examples, your insights will be increased into both the possibilities and the limitations of 3D printing. This master class also refers to the impact that 3D printing has on issues like business models, product life cycles, compliancy or intellectual property.
In short, this masterclass is a healthy reality check for companies who would like to take the next step in the right direction with 3D printing.
